Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Do you still have questions? We have the answers.

Are LED lights really more energy-efficient?

Yes, LED lights are extremely energy efficient. Here are some reasons why LED lights are considered energy efficient:

  1. Low energy consumption: LEDs require significantly less energy to produce the same amount of light compared to halogen and incandescent lamps. This leads to a considerable reduction in energy consumption.

  2. Longer service life: LED lights have a longer service life compared to conventional light sources. Our innovative STEINEL LED system enables an extra-long service life of up to 50,000 hours or 30 years, whereas incandescent lamps often only have a service life of around 1,000 hours. The longer service life means fewer frequent replacements and therefore less consumption of resources.

  3. Low heat generation: In contrast to incandescent lamps, LEDs generate less heat during operation. Less heat development means that less energy is lost and the overall efficiency of the luminaire is higher.

  4. Direct light emission: LEDs can emit light directly in a specific direction, which helps to minimise light loss.Traditional incandescent lamps, on the other hand, emit light in all directions, which requires additional energy to focus the light.

  5. Quick switch-on: LED lights reach full brightness immediately after switching on, unlike some other light sources that take time to reach maximum output. This contributes to energy efficiency, especially in situations where light is needed quickly.

  6. Dimmability: Many LED lights are dimmable, which means that the light intensity can be adjusted as required. This enables more precise control of energy consumption and contributes to energy efficiency.

Combining LEDs with motion detectors or twilight switches significantly increases energy efficiency.

What advantages do twilight-controlled lights offer?

Twilight-controlled lights switch on automatically when it gets dark and switch off when there is sufficient daylight. This can save up to 50% energy compared to conventional lights. Seasonal adjustment is also automatic, making it easy to save energy all year round. As the light is only switched on when it is needed, the operating time of the light sources is reduced. This helps to extend the service life and minimise maintenance costs.

How much energy can I really save by using lights with motion detectors?

Lights with motion detectors can save up to an astonishing 95% energy* compared to conventional lights without motion detectors. This is because the light only switches on when motion is detected and switches off automatically when no more activity is detected.

* The savings apply in comparison to the use of a conventional LED light without motion detector with the same output at ⌀ 10h continuous light per night. In comparison, the STEINEL LED light with motion detector only lights up for ⌀ 30min at night, as the light is only switched on when there is movement.

Can I convert existing luminaires to luminaires with motion detectors or twilight switches?

Yes, in many cases retrofitting is possible. We offer various solutions, including motion detectors and twilight switches, that can transform your existing lights into intelligent, energy-efficient lighting systems.

If you are unsure, it is advisable to consult a qualified electrician. An electrician can check the light in more detail, analyse the wiring and ensure that the conversion is carried out safely.
