Building Intelligence for Office & Work Environment

On your marks, get set, go. The FlexDesk solution at Campana & Schott, Frankfurt/Main

The idea behind
Giving people the opportunity to choose when and where to set up their workstation.

Particularly in large cities, office space is scarce and expensive. At the same time, digital workplaces and the wish to work from home play a key part in dimensioning the space.

This is why Campana & Schott uses a Smart Workspace FlexDesk solution to organise places for its staff to work at. Based on the data provided by the HPD2 optical sensor, staff look for a vacant workstation via app. By analysing usage data, office space can be optimised and utilised in the best possible way, reducing running costs.

The project

  • Customer: Campana & Schott
  • Location: Frankfurt, Germany
  • in use since 2019
  • 96 FlexDesk workstations at the Frankfurt operating base
  • Services: software, hardware and service

Even on the way to work, staff can look for a vacant workstation via app. They get search assistance from a chatbot.

The sensor data from the HPD2 helps staff to find an available workstation straight away. It detects how many people are present in a given area. An area of up to 100 m² can be divided up into as many as 5 zones.

Data on the actual use of space is analysed by software and provides a basis for making decisions on necessary space optimisation.

Invest - in work that makes sense – not in rental space that's not needed.

In times of ever-higher commercial rentals, businesses face the challenge of optimising the use of existing spaces and matching them to needs. To do this, intelligent technologies, such as the HPD2, provide the necessary digital data and facts, and give answers to when office space and rooms are being used, how long for and by how many people. Analysing this data, businesses and office-space operators can identify uneconomical processes as well as under-utilised premises and define potential savings. Hence, any decision to optimise the use of space can be made on the basis of actual data.

"The HPD2 shows us data from the past that we can use to make decisions for the future."

Bastian Emondts, Manager Campana & Schott

The HPD2 optical sensor detects how many people are present in a given area. Here, it is possible to divide an area of up to 100 m² into as many as 10 zones.

Key figures on space utilisation in a building

Using a web-based application, the Smart Workspace solution collates data on how building capacities are utilised. The key figures can be provided for the entire building, for each floor and also by room type, and displayed on standardised dashboards. This identifies potential savings at a glance.

Campana & Schott has 96 FlexDesk workstations, spread over three storeys.

All 200 members of staff at the Frankfurt office have come to appreciate a digitally organised workplace.

On average, 2 employees share a desk. Sharing rate: 0.48

Finding a meeting room

When staff are in the office, they often need to look for a room to hold meetings in during the course of the working day. In most cases time-consuming, the process of looking for a vacant and suitable meeting room can be efficiently organised with the Smart Workspace solution. This saves precious work time.
