Capstone® – digital building data for needs-based building management.

Technological progress and the increasing availability of sensors and IoT devices are opening up new opportunities to make buildings smarter and more efficient. By collecting and analysing environmental data such as temperature, humidity, CO₂ levels, VOCs, smoke, noise and occupancy signals, operational conditions can be analysed and optimisations identified. The new Capstone® software solution makes it possible, for the first time, to detect and visualise all IP and Bluetooth sensors as well as lights on the network, providing a comprehensive overview of the building’s status. Based on this data, optimisation recommendations for better space utilisation can be generated.

IP sensors and Bluetooth Mesh as the basis

With the introduction of the IP interface for our sensors and the capabilities of wireless Bluetooth Mesh technology, we have laid the foundations for integrating existing building infrastructure and flexibly networking new systems. All the data collected is transmitted to the Capstone server, where it is processed further.

The Capstone software provides a range of visualisation options. This means you can decide whether the data obtained at room, floor or building level is best presented for your decisions. It is also important to be able to show or hide certain data for a quick overview that meets your requirements.

Optimising the use of space

With the help of the Capstone software, the average utilisation rate of all rooms can be accurately displayed. A targeted analysis of room usage can help to plan and utilise existing office space in line with requirements. Resources that become available can be repurposed, thereby creating entirely new opportunities.

Optimised energy use

Many rooms often contain a large number of people at the same time, which leads to excessively high room temperatures. This not only affects well-being but also results in inefficient energy use. By analysing the data from the HVAC systems, adjustments can be made to these systems to adapt their operation to the recorded conditions.

Improving lighting control

Using the Capstone software, both room occupancy and lighting control can be visualised in real time. Analyses show that, in many rooms, the lights are frequently left on unnecessarily outside working hours. Adjustments to sensor settings and delay times can help to align the lighting’s operating times with actual usage.

High humidity can cause damage to the building structure and lead to health problems for the occupants. With the help of the Capstone software, problem areas can be identified at an early stage and targeted measures – such as regular ventilation and adjusted heating – can be taken to identify conditions that may encourage mould growth and to determine appropriate courses of action.

Analysis of noise levels

Reducing noise pollution is crucial for a good working and learning environment. With the help of Capstone software, noisy areas can be identified and targeted measures – such as sound insulation and room reconfiguration – can be implemented to pinpoint areas with elevated noise levels and determine appropriate measures to optimise room acoustics.

The Steinel Capstone Dashboard enables centralised monitoring and control of building systems in real time. Users can analyse data, quickly identify faults and take action to monitor operations based on the building data collected, whilst identifying opportunities for optimisation. Customisable widgets and clear visualisations make operation and optimisation easier. An integrated alarm system alerts users to faults, enabling immediate action, and supports the monitoring and optimisation of building management.

The floor plans displayed in the software provide a clear visualisation of the buildings. Users can see rooms and levels in detail and can locate sensors and devices directly on the floor plan. This visual mapping makes it easier to manage systems, as all relevant data is visible in its spatial context. This means that problems can be pinpointed and adjustments made with precision, enabling more efficient management of the building infrastructure.

Device overview.

The device overview in the Steinel Capstone software provides a centralised list of all connected devices and sensors. Users can monitor the status of each device in real time, including operating data, conditions and any error messages. This overview simplifies management by making it easy to locate and control each device as needed. It also enables easy maintenance by allowing problems to be identified and resolved immediately.

The room overview in the Steinel Capstone software provides a clear display of all key parameters for a room, such as lighting, temperature and ventilation. Users can see the status of the systems at a glance and make the necessary adjustments.
