In the future, Al Maktoum Airport will be the largest airport in the world. The first passenger terminal was opened in October 2013. State-of-the-art KNX presence detectors from STEINEL ensure that the airport's lighting is automatic and efficient. The standardised KNX BUS system is designed to control the most important building automation functions centrally and as energy-efficiently as possible. Using intelligent presence detectors to automate lighting can save up to 80 per cent energy. To achieve this, STEINEL's precision KNX sensors were selected for the new airport. The job of the KNX detectors is to control the lighting system connected to them in the passenger terminal. In corridors and passageways, this task is performed by the special Dual HF KNX corridor sensor. The IR Quattro HD KNX was chosen to control the lighting in the offices and kitchen areas.
The Dual HF KNX was specially developed for motion detection in corridors. That is why its detection field is tailored to the particular architecture of corridors and passageways. It is the only one of its kind to be equipped with two HF sensors. Each one monitors one direction of the corridor. A total length of 20 metres can be covered with just one Dual HF.
The IR Quattro HD KNX is ideal for recording predominantly sedentary activities, such as those that take place in airport offices. Thanks to its very high resolution, it reliably detects even the smallest movements, such as typing on a computer keyboard.
KNX detectors from STEINEL are particularly easy to install and configure. All settings can be configured and changed using ETS software or directly via the panel or smartphone. This means that minor changes can easily be made by the in-house technician – saving time and money, an advantage that is highly appreciated in Dubai.
