The idea behind
STEINEL lighting solutions in the Parque Europa car park, Leiria, Portugal
Bright, safe and demand-based lighting – these were key considerations when planning the lighting for the new three-storey Parque Europa car park in the centre of Leiria, Portugal. To achieve demand-based lighting control, the planning team chose STEINEL’s Connected Lighting solution. The Bluetooth Mesh-based lighting solution is used with both the RS PRO 5100 linear luminaire and the wall and ceiling luminaires of the R Series. In the parking areas, the RS PRO 5100 uses anticipatory lighting and STEINEL swarm intelligence to control the light according to actual use. Areas without movement are not illuminated unnecessarily. Another advantage is the cross-product networking with the R Series luminaires in the stairwell and on the exterior façade of the car park. Here too, intelligent lighting control provides demand-based lighting and a high level of comfort. Compared with the previous lighting, operating costs in the project can be reduced by up to 80%.

Right from the planning stage of the three-storey car park, particular emphasis was placed on a modern lighting solution tailored to the building’s requirements.
The lighting solution enables cross-product networking with the R series luminaires in the stairwell and on the exterior façade of the car park.
A gala dinner was held in the middle of the 155 parking spaces to inaugurate the car park. A sensational idea that allowed everyone on site to be convinced by the STEINEL lighting solution.
Partnership for demand-based lighting control
With STEINEL’s Connected Lighting solution, the Parque Europa car park has been equipped with a lighting system that adapts to the actual use of the different areas. The connected luminaires switch the light on specifically where it is needed and avoid unnecessary lighting times. This allows energy consumption and operating costs in the project to be reduced compared with continuous lighting. At the same time, users benefit from bright and comfortable lighting throughout the car park.

XLED PRO One Series
The XLED PRO One series of floodlights were used to illuminate the large outdoor areas. These can be mounted up to 6 metres off the ground and provide daylight-quality illumination of large areas.
RS PRO 5100 SC
Connected via Bluetooth, the RS PRO Connect 5100 SC linear LED light is easy and convenient to adjust and operate using an app.
RS PRO R10 SC
Based on Bluetooth mesh technology, the lights in the R series in the stairwells are networked with the car park lighting – without any additional cables.

Car parking
There are 155 parking spaces in the 3-level underground car park. The levels are connected by 3 well-lit stairwells.
Equipped for any emergency
We all hope that this will never be the case. In the event of a power outage, the RS PRO R10 luminaires in the stairwell switch on an LED emergency light (107 lm) for three hours in accordance with EN 60598-2-22. This ensures quick and safe orientation in an emergency.
Easy networking and operation via app
To light an area as extensive as the parking level of an underground car park, it makes sense to form groups of lights. With the RS PRO Connect 5100 LED, no additional cables need to be laid for this purpose. The lights are simply connected to each other via Bluetooth using the intuitive STEINEL app. For each of these light groups, it is necessary to define a group master in the app. All the lights in a group then work the way the group master is configured. Other light functions, such as the neighbourhood function, as well as light parameters such as twilight setting, basic light level, main light and time settings can also be easily selected via the app. Practical: All light functions and settings are conveniently selected from the ground using the app. No ladder is required.
