Medisch Spectrum Twente (MST) is one of the largest clinical teaching hospitals in the Twente region. Around 3,500 staff work there alongside regional healthcare partners to provide comprehensive healthcare. At its main site in Enschede, MST operates a modern hospital where technological developments and the continuous optimisation of operational processes play a key role.
In 2020, the car park at the Enschede site was modernised with Connected Lighting. Both the parking areas and the stairwells were fitted with networked STEINEL luminaires. The lighting is controlled according to demand and adapted to the respective usage situations. An analysis of the existing lighting system revealed that the previously used continuous lighting had been active for a total of 7,368 hours over a twelve-month period without any use of the areas in question being detected. These findings served as the basis for the modernisation of the lighting system.
By switching to Connected Lighting, the MST has created the conditions for demand-based lighting control. Through a combination of sensors, networking and automated lighting control, the lighting can be adapted to the actual usage of the car parks and stairwells. At the same time, the solution ensures uniform illumination of the areas and enables an analysis of operating times and usage patterns.

Potential savings
Compared with conventional T5 lighting, the RS PRO 5100 SC offers significantly lower energy consumption. When combined with demand-based lighting control, this helps to prevent lights from being left on unnecessarily and enables further energy savings. The actual potential for savings depends on the specific usage and initial situation.
Particularly in view of the ban on T5 light sources coming into force in September 2023, everyone should be considering the issue of retrofitting.
